3 Life Changing Habits Of Happy People

We all like to be happy, Captain Obvious over here, and I’ve been doing my very best to be my happiest recently. It’s not because I’m unhappy, but simply because I want to maximise my life and enjoy it that little bit more. After reading a gazillion (or what it felt like) blog posts today on this cold rainy Saturday all cuddled up in bed with blankets and hot chocolate, I thought I would write my list of habits for happy people!

Get Up Earlier

Nothing makes me feel more lethargic and miserable than when I wake up and realise I’ve missed half the day. I hate the feeling that I’m missing out on the day when I could be doing so much more with my time than lying unconscious on my bed, oblivious to the world around me.

As much as we all hate the sound of our alarm and getting up to face the day, after we’ve shaken off the initial annoyance the day starts to look brighter. Well not so much now as it’s dark outside in the morning, but metaphorically speaking of course!

By getting up earlier you have more time in the day to do so many things, so many things to save you the stress and worry of not having enough time in the day to get stuff done! You have time to do all the things you ‘never have enough time’ for; learn a language, read a book, the possibilities are endless! So make it part of your habits and get up earlier so you have more time to really LIVE!

Don’t Dwell On The Past

We all can be partial to a bit of a pity party, but it’s got to stop! No more sadness and tears over stuff you can’t change. I read in a blog today (and I’m so super sorry I’ve read so many today that I can’t remember who’s!) that if you can’t change it in 5 minutes or it won’t affect you in 5 years time, it isn’t worth worrying about. And I have to say I think this is very solid advice.

Life is about living in the present so if you’re spending so much time looking at the past or your future you’re going to miss the busy and exciting life happening right before your eyes! Stop worrying about things that have happened, they’re in the past and that’s where they will always be. So stand up tall and forget about it!

Learn Your Body

Learn what makes it happy, what makes it sad, what foods it likes, how it feels after exercise. Just basically get to know it, and start listening to it! If you’re finding it hard to sleep on a regular basis don’t just ignore it, try and fix it, the same can be said for your diet and you fitness. Get to know your body so that if something’s off you notice it!

I know when my body needs to take five, and I listen to it, as much as I hate being bed bound. Sometimes all it takes is a little extra 20 minutes in bed if I can afford it to really turn my day around. Make it part of your habits to start listening to your body, it’s not the end of the world if you have an extra slice of cake or extra time in bed. Just learn your own limits, everyone is different.
